Cooking rice can be difficult. I've had the most success with this method. With rice, once the lid is on no peeking!!
1 cup brown rice
1 1/2 cups water
Add water and rice to a pan and bring to a boil.
Lower to a simmer, cover, and let cook for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes remove from heat and let sit covered 10 - 20 minutes.

I think the best thing we ever did for our kitchen was buy a rice cooker. It makes all the difference in the world although it takes about 90 minutes to make brown rice and if you do GABA brown rice it takes about 3 hrs (supposed to make it better for you???). I know I should be able to make it on the stove but I never was very good at that. I still need to try quinoa in the rice cooker to see how that goes....
